Wanda LaVerne (Toney) Gilliam, age 88, was born on January 14, 1935 and earned her angel wings on October 9, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents; Lawrence and Lucy Toney of Evarts, her husband Frank Kenneth Gilliam, son-in-law; Markus Kelly.
Wanda married Frank Gilliam on April 18, 1954 and enjoyed 57 years together. They lived in Michigan for many years, where she retired after 22 years as a school bus driver for Chippewa Valley Schools. She graduated in 1953 from Evarts High School and worked in Harlan, KY for Southern Bell as a switchboard operator. Throughout her married life, she and Frank were dedicated supporters of many Masonic orders, including the Shrine hospitals. She was also very proud of being a commissioned Kentucky Colonel these last 40 years. Wanda and Frank retired and relocated to Speedwell, TN over 30 years ago.
They had 3 children; Theresa Joyce, Frederick Garmon and Patricia Ann (Donald).
Wanda was blessed with 3 grandchildren; Amanda Lynn Poole Davis (Shawn), Jonathon Kenneth Poole, Shelby Lynne Gilliam Duval (Andrew), great grandchildren; Cason Maddox Davis, Charlotte Angeline Davis and Jacob Kenneth Poole. Wanda was surrounded by many other loving relatives and friends especially her special friend over the years, June Mabe.
The family will receive friends Friday, October 13, 2023 from 5PM until 7PM with a Celebration of Life service at 7PM in the Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel with Pastor Johnny Parker officiating. Music will be provided by New Salem Church. Burial will be on Saturday in the John S. Gilliam Cemetery in Benham, KY.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Shriners Hospital Burn Center, 3229 Burnet Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45229.
