Rev. James Thompson Obituary

Rev. James Thompson, age 81 of Harrogate, TN was born April 19, 1943 to the late Charlie William Thompson and Berbie Ruth Nester in Strunks, KY. James accepted Christ at an early age. As a devote Christian, James was of the Baptist faith and God called him into the ministry to preach the gospel as a young man. He served in various positions and leadership roles in the church. At the time of his death he was a member of Town Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart and served Him faithfully until his untimely death on April 23, 2024, where he died peacefully surrounded by family at home. On the morning of April 23, 2024, “His Lord said unto him, Well, done good and faithful servant; though hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter though into the joy of thy Lord.” Matthew 25:23

In July 1964, James met the love of his life Sheila Tapley Thompson. Together they moved to Harrogate, TN to build their life together. They had 2 children, Autumn Nicole and Kyle Dean. James was a coal miner for Consolidative [Consol] Mining Company in Bell County, KY until he retired. He remained a member of the UMWA- United Mine Workers Association. He was a devoted and proud son, father, grandfather, and friend to many who met James. Always willing to help someone in need or to share the word of Christ to someone in need.

James was preceded in death by his father; Charlie William Thompson, mother; Berbie Ruth Nester Thompson, wife; Sheila Tapley Thompson, daughter; Autumn Nicole Bunch, step-granddaughter; Courtney Allison Moore, infant great grandchild; Skyler Jordan Bunch, brother; Roger Thompson, sister; Marilyn Harkye.
