Mr. John D. Ellison, age 74 of Harrogate, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at his home. He was born on November 14, 1947, a son of the late Rev. John William and Mary Elizabeth Bruce Ellison. He was saved and baptized at an early age at the Indian Creek Missionary Baptist Church. His parents and five children were in regular attendance there as it was located next door to their home.
He went to Forge Ridge School until the family moved north in the late 1950’s, after a brief time spent in Chicago, Illinois they settled in Hammond, Indiana. John finished grade School at Lafayette School and then graduated from Hammond Tech Vocational School in the mid 1960’s. After time spent in the United States Navy, he worked over 30 years at LTV Steel in N.W. Indiana.
Upon retiring he returned (as most of his siblings and parents had) to the hills of East Tennessee.
He was a great pool player, avid golfer, liked puzzles, and helping anyone in need. For all those who knew him well, he was loved and will be missed. R.I.P. “Shakey”.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Joann Peavyhouse and brother, Thomas Wayne Ellison.
John is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, John and Tanisha Ellison and Larry and Cheriel Ellison; daughter and son-in-Law, Natalie and John Probus; 5 grandchildren (one of which is expecting the first great grandchild); sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Wayne Mason; brother, Leonard Ellison; brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Madeline Ellison; sister-in-law, Sally Ellison; special friends, Danny and Mary; cousins, Mitch and Diane; and a host of nieces, nephews, golf buddies, friends, uncles, aunts and lots of cousins.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate His life will be held in Indiana at a later date.
