Obituary

James Oscar Raines, 73, of New Tazewell, formerly of Middlesboro, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the Claiborne Medical Center.  He was born in Middlesboro on February 1, 1949, a son of the late Clarence “Toots” and Doxie Lee White Raines.  He had served in the US Army, Green Beret, during the Vietnam War. James had been a self-employed construction worker.  He loved fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by great grandsons, Maxwell Grayson Raines and Karson Collins; brothers and sisters, Eddie Raines, Opal Raines, Rufus Perry Raines, Phillip Raines, Granville Raines, Thelma Lou Rains, Fred Raines and Jerry Raines and several nieces and nephews.

James is survived by his children, Clarence James Raines and wife, Jamiel, Thomas Christopher Raines. Tammy Renee Raines, Anna Mae Raines and Aaron Gibson; the mother of his children, Brenda Kay Kibert; step-daughter, Violet Hunter; sister, Brenda Gail Mason and husband Clarence; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
