Hassie Jean Lay

Hassie Jean "Chumley" Lay passed away August 15, 2023­­­­­­­. She was a native of Harrogate, TN and the daughter of the late V.W. Chumley and Dellar Chumley. She was a member of Kempsville Baptist Church Virginia Beach, Va.  

She is survived by one daughter, Donna Sue O’Sullivan and husband Kevin of Chesapeake, Va, two sons, R. Michael Lay and wife Donna Kay of Harrogate, TN and Steven L. Chumley and wife Kathleen of Chesterfield, Va. She has nine grandchildren: Matthew O’Sulivan, Mason O’Sullivan, M. Christopher Lay, Nikki Lay Evans, Brittany Braun, Jorge Chumley, Elijah Chumley, Joshua Lay, and Zacherie Lay, and ten great-grandchild Hannah O'Sullivan, Wyatt Lay, Kaylee Karg, Madelynn Karg, Emmaleigh Jean Evans, Sawyer Evans, Jaxon Evans, Ava Braun, Jawaun Braun and Caleb Braun.  She was preceded in death by her husband Robert E Lay, son Donald E. Lay and thirteen brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends Friday August 18th, 6-8 PM at Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel, Harrogate, TN and funeral service Saturday August 19th at 2 pm at Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel. Burial will follow in The Chumley Cemetery.  Pallbearers: Matt O'Sullivan, Mason O'Sullivan, Chris Lay, Josh Lay, Zack Lay, Jorge Chumley, Elijah Chumley, Jonathan Karg & Dustin Evans. The family would like to express a heart felt thanks to the care givers that have been by our mothers side over the past few months and to Sun Crest Hospice team.  She truly had the Best of care.
