Charles Anthony “Tony” Compton of Speedwell, Tennessee was born March 13, 1951 in Middlesboro, Kentucky and went to be with Jesus on January 31, 2021 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center after a courageous and hard-fought journey with leukemia. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Tony was an ordained deacon and taught Sunday School at Carr’s Chapel Baptist Church. He proudly began college at age 43 and graduated with honors from both Southeast Community College and Lincoln Memorial University.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Nadine Compton and brothers Bill and Sam Compton. Tony is survived by his loving wife Mary, who held his hand until Jesus reached down and took his hand; son Willie Anthony; daughter-in-law Misty, and precious granddaughter Miss Sophia Compton. Also surviving Tony is his sister Judy Middleton and brother Mike Compton, both of Harrogate; special niece Samantha Robertson; special Byrge cousins of the Cleveland, Tennessee area who visited Tony frequently and made him smile.
Tony loved God and was in awe of His goodness and mercy. Tony loved and understood the Constitution of the United States; he was a true patriot. His favorite sports team is the University of Kentucky Wildcats Basketball Team. When the snow was blowing and the 3’s were going, Tony was happy, happy, happy.
Tony’s family wishes to express special unending appreciation to Dr. John Michael Robertson and staff of Family Medical Clinic of Harrogate; to Dr. Richard Lee and staff of Baker Cancer Center of Harrogate; to Dr. Jared Kravitz and Terri Arwood of University of Tennessee Medical Center.
