Tommy Wayne Powers, 71 of Cumberland Gap, TN passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at his home. He was born at home in Buffalo, Tennessee on November 4, 1947 and was the son of the late Wayland and Georgia Partin Powers. Tommy was a member of Flatwoods Freewill Baptist Church and had been a heavy equipment operator for coal companies and rock quarries before retiring. He was also a proud United States Marine Corps veteran having served our country in Viet Nam from 1965 until 1971.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Louis Fultz.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Sue Marlow Powers; children, Scott Powers and Heather Lane, Tonya Bacon and Kelly, and Alan Powers and Mellissa; grandchildren, Michael Powers, Emily Powers, Gavin Willis, Lexy Willis, Connor Powers, Kaydence Powers, Christian Bacon and Faith; special grandkids, Estelle Bacon and Aden Nunn; brothers and sisters, Donnie Powers and Betty, Eddie Powers and Debbie, Janie Hamblin and Doyle, Judy Fultz, Gary Powers and Regina and Robin Russell and Mike; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 7:00 PM on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel with Rev. Harry James and Rev. Tommy Cutcher. Music will be by Heidi and Ryan Greer. Graveside services be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday at the Powers Family Cemetery in Cumberland Gap with full military honors presented by the Tri-County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Michael Powers, Gavin Willis, Connor Powers, Phillip Powers, Conley “Trey” Wilburn, Wayland Fultz, Eddie Lynn Powers, Will Russell and Justin Hamblin. Honorary pallbearers are Tim Hamblin, Adam Powers, Brandon Cuhna and Christian Bacon.
The family will receive friends on from 5 until 7 PM Sunday at the Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel in Harrogate which is honored to be serving the Powers family.
