Cortus Welch, a sweet and gentle man, moved to his heavenly home on June 4, 2019 at 100 years of age. He was the oldest living member of East Cumberland Ave. Baptist Church. Cortus was a mechanic and former owner of Cortus Welch Marine. In retirement, he enjoyed going to his basement and watching The Bible on tape, smoking his pipe, and piddling.
In addition to his parents, FC and Axie (Jarnigan) Welch he was preceded in death by his sons, Donald and Edward Welch; son-in-law, Dewey Gilbert and granddaughter Lisa Edlin. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 79 years, Callie (Jones) Welch;daughters, Wanda Gilbert, Patricia Lawson (Stan); sons, Howard Welch (Carolyn) Charles Welch (Marsha); brother, Fred Welch (Irene); daughter-in-law, Jerri Welch; 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 5PM until 7PM with funeral services to follow at 7PM in the Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel, Harrogate, TN. Rev. Damon Patterson and Rev. Ken Cole officiating. Music provided by Linda Ingram and Bebe Campbell.
Family and friends will meet 11AM Friday to go in procession to the Cave Springs Cemetery for 12 noon graveside services with grandsons and great grandsons serving as pallbearers.
