James “Bill” Brooks, 78 a lifelong resident of Ewing, Virginia went to be with his Savior Saturday, October 19, 2019. Bill was saved at an early age and a long time, faithful member of the Mountain View Independent Baptist Church in Caylor, Virginia. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who set a wonderful example of a Godly loving father. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and a member of the American Legion Post 185 in Jonesville, VA for 23 years. He had been employed at Coca Cola Bottling Company in Middlesboro, KY for a number of years. Bill will be missed but will live on in our hearts and memories until we see him again one day.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alwayne and Ethel (Cowan) Brooks; brothers, J.T. Brooks and Jack Brooks and sister, Martha Harrell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Delois Jean Brooks of Ewing, VA; son, James “Jamie” Brooks, and wife Tammy (Bush) Brooks of Monkton, MD; grandsons, Jacob Thomas Brooks of Chapel Hill, NC, Lucas Aaron Brooks of Monkton, MD and Joseph Isaac Brooks of Monkton, MD; brother, Kenneth Brooks of Pontiac, Michigan; sister, Barbara Mathis of Amo, Indiana; sister in law, Judy Cox of Salem, Virginia; brother-in-law, Benny Ayers of Livedale, Florida; special friends, Carl Bailey of Ewing, Virginia, David Bush of Arthur, Tennessee and Ed and Janet Bush of Arthur, Tennessee along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Services will be Monday, October 21 at 7:00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel Funeral Home in Harrogate with Pastor Claude West and Cody West. Music will be provided by Claude and Denise West, Cody West and Bo Seals. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery Tuesday, October 22 at 2:00 PM with full Military Honors. Pallbearers will be Jacob Brooks, Lucas Brooks, David Seals, Isaac Brooks, Cody West, David Bush, Carl Bailey and Conner Bush. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Ayers, Ed Jones and his church family from Mountain View Independent Baptist Church.
